Your Guide to Online Chinese Lessons: Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Chinese class?

Q: Can I join the class if I don’t speak Chinese at all?

A: Anyone is welcome to join as long as you’re willing to learn!

Q: What do I need to prepare for the class?

A: All you need is just a Google accout, a device with stable internet connection, and most importantly, curiosity!

Q: How to pay for the lessons?

A: Right now I accept payments on PayPal and Wise. You can choose your preferred platform. If you live in Europe, you can pay me in EUR through Wise. Please contact me for the prices in EUR.
PayPal (USD): aretayz.gu@gmail.com

Q: How long will it take for me to have a conversational level?

A: It really depends on how much effort you make! To be able to have a simple conversation, talk about yourself and your life, buy things and order at restaurants, it takes only about 16 to 20 hours on average. However, speed learning is never the point! Think of learning as a long journey, and you have to enjoy the progress to be able to keep moving forward!

Q: I live in Taiwan / I’m traveling to Taiwan soon. Are in-person classes possible?

A: Unfortunately I’ve moved to the Netherlands after having lived in Taipei for 12 years, so I’ll be only teaching online classes. However, feel free to ask for travel tips or advice if you’re new in Taiwan or Taipei!

Q: How do I book a trial lesson?

A: Click the button below, and you can find an open slot on my calendar that works for you!

Q: Is a trial lesson free?

A: You can book a trial lesson at a discounted price of 28$! I put a lot of effort into preparing my lessons, so I don’t offer free trials. However, I’d be happy to discuss your goals and how I can help before you book your first class.

Q: I booked a trial lesson. Now what?

A: After you booked a trial lesson, I will send you an email confirming your reservation. I might ask you questions about the kind of lessons you would like to take, along with the bank details if you have not been able to make the payment directly on PayPal or Wise. On top of that, I will also send you an invitation on Google calendar, and at the same time you can check if it’s the correct hour in your time zone. (Mistakes happen sometimes!) If there’s uncertainties, you’re also more than welcome to send me an email or leave a message in the contact page!

Q: Can I cancel a lesson or ask for a refund?

Any lessons cancelled 48 hours before the scheduled time can be refunded; however, I still recommend that you reschedule it, since perseverance is the key to fluency!

For cancellation and refund policies, please check here.

Q: My company is paying for my lessons. Can I have an invoice and receipt?

Absolutely! When you book a trial lesson, you will sign up as a student at the same time. After that, I can send you an invoice or receipt every month.
